Yes You (aka Your Reflection / Change of Direction) is the most personal and boundary-pushing work I’ve created to date. As a filmmaker, I’ve always been drawn to bold, unflinching storytelling, but this ongoing series of new media art allowed me to go deeper—placing viewers directly inside the work. From June 19th to July 19th at Z83 (2400 James M. Wood Blvd. LA CA 90006), the first public chapter of Yes You will unfold across five intimate viewing booths, where your live reflection becomes part of a visual and sonic kaleidoscope—collaged imagery, shifting text, surreal sequences, and music all combining in real time. The pieces range from confrontational to meditative, some blunt, others mysterious, but all are designed to elicit a visceral response—whether it’s laughter, discomfort, curiosity, or catharsis. Inspired by Cageian chance, poetry, and experimental media, Yes You doesn’t offer easy narratives; instead, it invites you to question identity—your own and others’—in ways that are personal, immediate, and at times, unsettling. This exhibit, opening on Juneteenth, reflects my ongoing commitment to exploring human nature through a lens that is both stripped down and deeply layered.
